Next week is all about cozy, warming meals (including this pumpkin beef chili pictured above). I’ve been loving the cooler air and how the trees are turning shades of red and yellow, it makes the drives feel so peaceful and I’m feeling very grateful to experience our first fall here in TN. I’m prepping sourdough buns for hamburgers today (recipe from this week here) and sourdough pumpkin cookies (trying to use up all my discard) The kids are excited to decorate for Christmas tomorrow, we always decorate November 1st, so we got all the decor from storage and they’ve been rummaging through it.

We’re going trick or treating tonight in a sweet, toddler-friendly neighborhood so the kids can walk around in their dinosaur and horse costumes before it gets dark. Yesterday I took them to the sweetest toy shop in Nolensville where they each picked out a toy they’ll get to trade their candy for after trick or treating. They have to wait to play with it until we’re back home, which makes it even more special. When I told Poppy about the plan, she asked, “What’s candy?” and I realized she’s never had it before. She knows chocolate (I love the Alter Eco brand) and, of course, desserts like cookies or ice cream when I bake, but she’s never had a piece of wrapped candy. She’s mostly just excited to play with the toy she picked out yesterday and could care less about the candy, (probably because she’s never tried a Reese’s cup… those used to be my favorite!). Tonight will be fun watching them in their costumes and spending time with their cousins…
